Thomas Robert Burns, 78, of Chesapeake Beach passed away surrounded by family on February 10, 2022. He was born February 5, 1944 to Col. Kenneth Paul and Muriel Ann (Klay) Burns. Raised in a close military family, Tom traveled extensively and lived all over the world. Swimming was Tom's ultimate passion where he notably exceled. His hard work, dedication and commitment to the sport drove him to him to forgo a West Point appointment to accept a full scholarship to the University of Michigan. In addition to his All-American swimming tenure, Tom dedicated his life to distinguished career in Law. He graduated from the University of Michigan with his Bachelor's Degree, Tufts University with his Master's Degree in Economics and was a very proud graduate of the University of Michigan Law School. He married Pamela Wood on February 16, 1980 and they lived in Northern Virginia where they raised their family. Tom worked as an attorney in real estate for CB Richard Ellis for many years before becoming self-employed. He was well regarded as a negotiator and known for his relentless drive and tenacity. Tom's love for his family was contagious. He spent his last years surrounded by his grandchildren, which brought him ultimate joy. Words cannot do justice how proud he was of his daughters, their spouses and their children. His compassion, dedication and persistence will always be remembered and carried through them. Tom is survived by his wife Pamela Burns, daughters Jennifer Burns Frenzel and her husband Peter of Chesapeake Beach and Gillian Carroll and her husband Kevin of Huntingtown, grandchildren Patrick and Cailyn Frenzel and Finley and Reid Carroll. He is also survived by his brother James Burns, his wife Cynthia and their children Karin and Justin.
