George William "Billy" Bowles, Sr., 73, of Loveville, MD, passed away at his home on February 12, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 27, 1948 in Leonardtown, MD, he was the son of the late Daniel Jefferson Bowles and Mary Ethel Owens Bowles. George was the loving husband of Barbara Jane Battenfield Bowles, whom he married on October 5, 1968 in Avenue, MD. Together they recently celebrated 53 years of marriage.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Mary Lee Cusic (Donnie) of Mechanicsville, MD, George Bowles, Jr. (Valerie) of Mechanicsville, MD, Tammy Wood (Timmy) of Loveville, MD, and Robbie Bowles (Marimille) of Leonardtown, MD, along with his grandchildren; Kimberlee Cusic, Isaiah Bowles, Joey Wood, Emily Cusic, Julie Cusic, Jayson Bowles, Katie Wood, Hunter Bowles, and Samantha Bowles.

George came from a large family, being one of 11 children; Renie Quade, Anita Lacey, Dorothy Lacey, Catherine Vandenboss, Lillian Buckler, Tom Bowles, Jim Bowles, and Joe Bowles. George was preceded in death by his brother Jeff Bowles, Sr. and his sister Alice Thompson.

After graduation, George worked construction; he was quick to learn this trade. He also spent many hours working on the family farm in Loveville, MD, and was later employed at Public Works, Patuxent River Naval Air Station before retiring in 2005. George had a passion for woodworking and creating many masterpieces such as cabinetry, bedroom furniture, and cedar chests; cedar being his wood of choice. George was very creative and could custom make any item once a picture was provided to him. During his leisure time, George enjoyed crabbing, working in the garden, and spending time with his grandkids. He also enjoyed hatching and raising baby ducks and chicks.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Morganza, MD with Father Drew Royals officiating. Interment will follow in Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery, Helen, MD. Serving as pallbearers will be Joey Wood, Jayson Bowles, Jimmy Lyon, Joey Bowles, Donnie Cusic, and Timmy Wood.
