Larry Robert Holtz, 74 of La Plata, Maryland, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 21, 2020.

Larry was born on August 21, 1945, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, to Lt. Col. Merrill Louis Holtz and Ruth Anne (Weber) Holtz. He was the oldest of four children.

He attended the University of Maryland, College Park, and ultimately graduated from Chaminade College of Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1967 with a Bachelors Degree. He joined the Air Force immediately after college and was stationed at Air Force OSI Headquarters in Washington, D.C. He married his Surrattsville High School sweetheart, Barbara Anne Loveless, on December 20, 1969. He attended George Washington University School of Law in Washington, D.C., and ultimately earned his Juris Doctor from University of Baltimore School of Law in 1973.

He retired from the Air Force Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1988 when he was appointed as District Administrative Judge, District Court of Maryland, District 4 (Calvert, Charles and St. Mary's Counties). After his time on the bench, he served as the Court Liaison for Child Support Enforcement for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services until his retirement in 2013.

Larry was an avid athlete – he played high school football as well as college football for both the University of Maryland and in Hawaii. In addition, he surfed while in Hawaii and also loved to golf with friends. He loved attending University of Maryland Terrapin football and basketball games, playing pitch, and cracking puns with family and friends.

He loved his family above all else. He is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Barbara, of La Plata; daughter, Anne (Chad) Holtz Schmick of University Park, Maryland; daughter, Megan (Anthony) Hamilton of Buda, Texas; daughter, Emily (Jason) Caesar of Woodstock, Georgia; sister, Cheryl (Jim) Kitchen of Corcoran, Minnesota; sister, Linda (Louie) Grendahl of Crystal, Minnesota; sister, Pamela (John) Zimitsch of Maple Grove, Minnesota; grandsons, Corey, Jonah & Lucas Schmick, Ian Hamiton, and Phoenix, Kingston & Sky Caesar; several nieces and nephews; and an abundance of friends.
