Rupert "Pete" Cooksey passed away on January 9, 2020. He is survived by his two daughters, Deborah Karen Gray and husband, Michael and Beverly Fay Norris; two grandsons, Timothy Allen and his daughter, Asia and Mervin L. Allen, Jr. and wife Nicole and their children, Piper and Flynn Allen; his sister-in-law, Catherine Cooksey; his nephew, James Cooksey; and his niece, Carolyn Cooksey. He is preceded in death by his wife, E. Ann Cooksey; his parents, Rupert (Tom) P. Cooksey, Sr. and Elizabeth Hay (Roberts) Cooksey; and by his brother, James C. Cooksey.

Pete grew up on a farm in Dentsville, Maryland, graduated from La Plata High School, and served as a MP in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. When he returned, he joined the Charles County Sheriff's Department and retired with the rank of Lieutenant. He then started his own business, R. P. Cooksey Construction, building custom homes. During that time, he served as the site manager for the Build a Dream Foundation through the Charles County Public Schools. He was also a member of the FOP Lodge 24.

In his free time, he enjoyed playing guitar and listening to country and western music. He worked hard all of his life until life made it impossible. He was proud of his service to Charles County and proud of his Scottish heritage.

Visitation on Monday, January 20, 2020 from 9:30AM until time of Funeral Service at 11AM at Raymond Funeral Service Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, Maryland 20646 followed by interment at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3221 Mattawoman-Beantown Road, Waldorf, Maryland 20601. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Charles County (2505 Davis Road, Waldorf, Maryland 20603) or the Dentsville EMS (PO Box 109, La Plata, Maryland 20646).
