Farmers encouraged to attend Vegtable and Fruit Conference
The Southern Maryland Vegetable and Fruit Conference is scheduled for February 7th from 8 am until 4 pm at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds. . Consumer demand for fresh, local fruit and vegetables continues to grow, and with increasing demand comes a great opportunity for local growers of fruits and vegetables. The annual conference provides important production and marketing updates for area farmers. University and industry specialist will cover a range of topics including: Anaerobic Soil Disinfestation Methods and Nematode Survey Results; Vegetable Weed Update: Why Herbicides Sometimes Fail; Early Detection & Control of Downy Mildew on Cucurbits; Managing White Mold on Tomatoes; Regional Pumpkin, High Tunnel Tomato and Strawberry Trials; Biocontrol of Insect and Mite Pests in High tunnel Vegetables; The Resilient Farmer: Managing Stress on The Farm; FSMA and the Produce Safety Rule; and Pesticide and Nutrient Management Updates.
Pesticide Recertification and Nutrient Voucher Recertification credits are available for all day attendance at this meeting. The conference will be held at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds in Leonardtown.
