Since 1974, Senior Companions have made a difference by providing assistance and friendship to adults that have difficulty with daily living tasks, such as shopping or paying their bills. Their assistance helps these adults retain their dignity and remain independent in their homes rather than having to move to more costly institutional care. Opportunities are now available for those seniors 55 and over who would like to volunteer to become a senior companion. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer please join us for this presentation and to get more information on this wonderful program. To sign up call the receptionist at 301-475-4200, ext. *1050.

Join St. Mary's County Camera Club (SMCCC) at the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center for our monthly program.

The March presentation titled "A Passion for Wildlife Photography, the Stories Behind the Images" will be given by Irene Hinke-Sacilloto of Osprey Photo Workshops & Tours.

A Passion for Wildlife Photography, the Stories Behind the Images:

Based on my more than 30 years’ experience photographing birds and other animals, this program covers the knowledge, strategies, techniques, and equipment required to capture professional wildlife images. I include information on locating, attracting, and approaching animals along with prime locations for wildlife photography, the use of photographic blinds, and stalking techniques. Additionally, I will share my motivation for photographing wildlife along with entertaining stories behind some of my images.

About Irene:

Since 1979, Irene Hinke-Sacilotto has led numerous tours under the auspices of Osprey Photo Workshops and Tours, and has conducted many photographic workshops for zoos, nature centers, and organizations like the National Wildlife Federation and the Assateague Island Alliance. She regularly lectures at Johns Hopkins University and conducts seminars for other educational institutions, retirement communities, and bird and photo clubs including the New England Council of Camera Clubs. Workshops and classes cover nature, wildlife, garden, and travel photography plus programs on locations such as the Brazilian Pantanal, Iceland, and Chincoteague. Irene’s “How To” articles have appeared in national publications, including:

- Shutterbug’s Outdoor and Nature Photography
- Outdoor Photographer
- Birding

Her photography has appeared in numerous magazines, such as Birder’s World, Birding, Living Bird, National Wildlife Federation, Natural History, Outdoor Photographer, Weekly Reader, as well as many books, calendars, note cards, and posters produced by:

- Audubon
- National Geographic
- National Park Service
- Sierra Club

Irene’s degrees in biology and chemistry, and her strong background in the environmental science field, add to her already impressive credentials.

We are looking for men, women and a few children to tell the compelling story of Jesus' teaching, arrest, trial, execution and resurrection. It is outdoors with live animals at the corner of HG Trueman and Cove Point Roads. This is open to all members of the community to participate. There are many interesting roles still to be filled, including Pontius Pilate, Mary Magdalene, various priests, disciples, and Roman soldiers although these will continue to be filled.
