MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital’s 12th Annual Auxiliary Golf Tournament will be held Thursday, Sept. 21, at Breton Bay Golf and Country Club in Leonardtown. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with a 9 a.m. tee off.

New for 2017, all players will receive an additional free round of golf to enjoy at a later date. Snacks and complimentary beverages will be offered from two carts on the green. A beverage tent will offer complimentary refreshments with grilled hot dogs at the turn and lunch donated by Bear Creek BBQ of Callaway. Door prizes include a bushel of local crabs, golf games and more.

This annual event helps fund equipment, capital projects, patient and associate improvements and other projects for the non-profit facility. Support from past tournaments has been used to purchase patient care items including a portable ultrasound machine, ergonomic wheelchairs and stretchers, a mobile EKG machine and transport cardiac monitors.

Golfers are welcomed at $100 per person. Sponsorships are available for $5,000 (platinum); $2,500 (gold); $1,000 (silver); $500 (bronze); and $250 for a tee sign.

Celebrating 100 years of service to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in 2016, the Hospital Auxiliary is an all-volunteer organization contributing countless hours and raising more than $4 million in donations used within the hospital. These passionate members of the community have made crucial contributions to many expansion and renovation projects at the Leonardtown campus.

Enjoy the ambiance of late summer while contributing to the mission of MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital to best serve the community on Thursday, Sept. 21.

Happenstance Theater Company perform “BrouHaHa”
St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s department of theater, film, and media studies will host Happenstance Theater Company, one of Washington, D.C.’s pre-eminent performance troupes, as they perform “BrouHaHa” on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 20 and 21 at 8 p.m., in the Bruce Davis Theater, Montgomery Hall Fine Arts Center, on the St. Mary’s College campus. The performance lasts about 80 minutes.

Performances of “BrouHaHa” are free and open to the public but seating is limited. Reservations are required. To make reservations, contact the Theater Box Office by email at boxoffice@smcm.edu or by phone to 240-895-4243. Tickets must be picked up no later than 7:45 p.m. the evening of the performance.

Happenstance Theater Company is a six-member, Rockville, Md.-based performance troupe steeped in the traditions of commedia dell’arte, clowning, circus, and vaudeville. The company is a multiple Helen Hayes award-winning ensemble hailed by the Washington, D.C. press for its superb improvisatory skills, physical humor, and, above all, spontaneous interactions with the audience.

In “BrouHaHa,” the show the company brings to St. Mary’s College, a troupe of Victorian clowns greets the end of the world with pathos and levity. Their curiosity at the precipice lights up the darkness like a firecracker! What happens in that moment of illumination?

“BrouHaHa” takes its inspiration partly from the dark comedy of Irish playwright Samuel Beckett, famous for his play “Waiting for Godot,” and from Italian filmmaker Federico Fellini’s late Neorealist-inspired film about circus performers, “La Strada.”
