Join artist, Phaan Howng; scholar, Natasha Myers; botanical garden planner, Nicole DeFeo; and Herring Run Nursery assistant manager, Mary Lewis; as they deconstruct how ideal aestheticized gardens reflect power relations between humans and nature. Rethink how gardening practices can be mobilized to create more environmentally sustainable futures.

It's impossible to explore the history and heritage of the Tidewater Potomac region and not talk about tobacco. So that's what we're going to do. Join us virtually from 7-8 pm on Tuesdays this fall to talk about tobacco. We're going to dig deep into how this plant horn-wormed its way into our lives and shaped the land and the culture of the place that we call home.

Tuesday Tobacco Talks has four virtual sessions:
Tuesday, October 20: Planting Power: Tobacco as a Status Indicator in the 18th Century
Tuesday, November 10: A Scientific Study of Sot-Weed
Tuesday, November 17: Buyouts and Beauty Queens: Tobacco Culture in the 20th Century
Tuesday, November 24: Sacred Tobacco: A Native Plant

Sign up for individual sessions at $10/each or register for all four sessions for $35 here: bit.ly/2SwFZD2

Proceeds from this program support the Accokeek Foundation's land conservation work and educational programs.
