James Donald Maddox, 68, of Mechanicsville, MD and formerly of Waldorf, MD died on September 18, 2014 at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. He was born on April 20, 1946 in La Plata, MD to the late James Maddox and the late Dorothy White Canter.

James graduated from La Plata High School. Later he became a warehouse manager for Bob Hall Distributor and retired in 2005. James enjoyed reading, gardening, working in the yard, cutting his grass and feeding birds. He loved hummingbirds and he loved to travel to Tennessee and South Carolina. James also enjoyed keeping his vehicles shiny, bicycle riding, fishing, camping, and visiting Luray Caverns. He also loved his cat who predeceased him in death.

In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by his former wife, Betty Maddox; and his sister, Linda Hill.

James is survived by his wife, Jeannie Copsey-Maddox; his step-children, Mary Ann Ayers, Frankie Montgomery, Cindy Kersey, Jamie Lathroum, and Jennifer Hills; brother, David Maddox; sister, Barbara Copsey; step-brother, Luke Canter; step-sister, Cathy Richards; 14 step-grandchildren; and 11 step-great grandchildren.

Family and friends will be received for James' Life Celebration on Monday, September 22, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at 10:30 a.m., at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Charles Memorial Gardens, 26325 Point Lookout Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. Pallbearers will be Everett Dove, Albert Huntington, Jr., Bill Rawlings, Jamie Lathroum, Darryl Hills, Jim Kersey, Jim Kersey Jr. and John Frazier.
