Mr Helwig was a retired Sgt. First Class with the United States Army, having served 24 years. He was also a farmer and trapper in Nanjemoy. He was a member of the VFW Post in Bel Alton, Md., member of the NRA, and Charles County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. Also, a member of Old Durham Episcopal Church in Ironsides, Md.

Son of the late Daniel Campbell Helwig and the late Edith Jenny Matson Helwig.

Predeceased by his parents, and his late wife, Mary Dorothy Gray Helwig; three brothers; Daniel, Russell, and Chester Helwig; and one sister, Gladys Wagaman.

Survived by his one son, Butch (Tommie) Helwig of Nanjemoy, Md.; two sisters, Ethyl Reeser and Evva Martin, both of Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Jessica L. And Billy G. Helwig, Jr.

Visitation on Thursday, March 6, 2008 from 5-8 PM at Raymond Funeral Chapel, La Plata, Md.

Funeral Service will be on Friday, March 7, 2008 at 11 AM at Old Durham Church, Ironsides, Md.

Clergy will be Rev. David McDonald.

Interment at Church Cemetery.
