Bertha Cecelia Quade, 82, from Mechanicsville, MD passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2014. She passed at home surrounded by her family after a short illness with leukemia.

Bertha was the daughter of Spencer Daniel Hammett and Ellen E. Woodbourne Hammett. She was predeceased by her brother Daniel F. Hammet and sisters, Helen Pilkerton and Ida Quade.

Bertha was a homemaker and lived her life for her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was deeply rooted in her church and Catholic faith.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Alton M. Quade, Jr.; her sons David (Kathleen), Larry, Gene (Margaret) and Patrick (Wendy); nine grandchildren – Barry, Wendy, Ashley, Shannon, Madeline, Tyler, Tristen, Agnes and Catherine and, two great grandchildren – Kameron and Aubree.

Family and friends will be received at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home in La Plata on Monday, August 18, 2014 from 2 – 4pm and 6 – 8pm with prayers at 7:00pm. Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at St. Ignatius, Chapel Point on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 11:00am with internment immediately following at Chapel Point Cemetery. Pall bearers will be: Sam Quade, Richard Hammett, Charles Hammett, Richard Pilkerton, Barry Quade, and Sam Quade, Jr.
