Thomas Stephen Williams, also known to all who loved him as "Steve" or by his grandchildren as "Granddaddy" was born in York, South Carolina on May 12, 1956 to the late Thomas Williams, Jr. and the late Amanda Elease (Currence) Williams.

Steve was the oldest and only boy of three children: Ann Campbell and Debra Elease. During his childhood Steve loved swimming. He also loved fishing and cooking for his friends and family. All these hobbies he continued to enjoy until his death.

In 1966, Steve relocated with his parents and siblings from King George, VA to Washington, DC where he attended DC public schools. He attended Bunker Hill elementary, and Bertie Backus Jr. High School. Steve attended McKinley Technology High School where he excelled academically which allowed him to graduate a year early and enter into college. After graduating from high school he attended Hampton University in Norfolk, VA. Following in the footsteps of his parents he later transferred to North Carolina A &T State University where he met his wife, Calamity. Not realizing at the time that by continuing the Aggie tradition he would be creating a legacy for his children, as both Damany and Kanika attended North Carolina A&T State University.

On August 7, 1979 he married Calamity J. Lewis and from their union three children were born: Stephen Ajani, Damany Khary, and Kanika Asha.

After making North Carolina their home for just a few years, Steve and Calamity eventually found their way to Washington DC. It is there that Steve would ultimately begin his tenure with the Washington DC, Metropolitan Police Department on September 7, 1982 where he was assigned to the Third District. During his career he served on the Third District Patrol and the Drug Enforcement Unit. He also served as an Investigator, and within one year was made a Grade II Detective. He was currently serving as a Detective at the Third District Police Department in Washington, D.C. With 26 years of service, Steve was a distinguished and highly decorated officer receiving in excess of 50 Awards, Accommodations, and Reports of Exemplary Performance of Duty letters for outstanding service. These awards included but are not limited to Crime Reduction Awards, Commendable Performance Awards, Patrol Support Section Officer of the Month Award, and the Outstanding Performance of Duty Award.

While serving on the Drug Enforcement Unit, along with Detective Wayne Simpson, Steve was recognized for his hard work and determination during an investigation which eventually led to the arrest and conviction of a murder suspect. His dedication and exemplary performance did not go unnoticed. He was commended for removing a "vicious criminal" from the streets of Washington, DC, and it was stated that his "actions exhibited a sense of professionalism, further demonstrated by a precise degree of coordination and dedication" and was therefore recommended by his commanding officer to be commended by the Awards Committee, and was later recognized by the Chief of Police. It truly goes without saying, that Steve was vastly respected and greatly regarded by his colleagues, and he will forever be remembered as a good friend and an outstanding police officer.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents Thomas Williams Jr. and Amanda Elease (Currence) Williams and son, Stephen Ajani Williams. He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law, Joseph U. Lewis, Sr.; and brothers-in-law, Immanuel and Marvin Lewis.

Steve will be lovingly remembered, and sadly missed by his wife, Calamity J. Williams; his children, Damany K. Williams and Kanika A. Williams; daughter-in-law, Tiffany Williams; granddaughters, Taylor and Kennedy Williams; sisters Ann Williams and Debra Woodson (Duane); mother-in-law Christine Lewis; two sisters-in-law, Constance Owens (Dexter), and Marvette Camp (Joseph); brothers-in-law, Joseph Lewis Jr. (Wanda); David Lewis (Kim), and Malcolm Lewis; two very special nieces Amanda and Eleasa Woodson; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
