Sandra Marie Hopkins, 76, of Waldorf, Maryland lost her courageous battle with cancer June 5, 2014 peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.
She joined the Army in 1956. She served ten years in the military and worked for the Federal Government for 34 years retiring on April 1, 2011. Sandy was a very well-known, respected, admired and loved woman. Anyone who knew her knew she was a diehard Redskins fan and would never miss a football game during the season. She also enjoyed working in her yard, walking and playing bingo. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Gerald Hopkins; sisters Sharon Blackwell and Carol Allard and brother Robert Austin (Marsha). She is survived by her two children Pamela Kenney and Russell Hopkins; three brothers James Austin (Charlotte), Gordon Austin (Diane) and Richard Austin (Bonni); four grandchildren Kendra Stockman (Ryan), Brandon, Antoinette and Dominic Hopkins and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. A visitation will be held from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm on Monday June 16, 2014 at the Huntt Funeral Home Waldorf, Maryland. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday June 17, 2014 at 11am at the Huntt Funeral Home Waldorf, Maryland. Burial will follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery Cheltenham, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Charles County at 2505 Davis Road, Waldorf, Maryland 20603 or the Wounded Warrier Project at 1120 G.
