Helen Louise Long (Tippy), 58, of Mechanicsville, MD passed away March 30, 2014 at her residence. Born January 5, 1956 in North Carolina, she was the daughter of Charles Kiser and Mary L. Smith Kiser.
She married Claude Long, Sr. on March 9, 1974 and they just celebrated their 40th year anniversary. Tippy was a beloved member of the community and worked as a cosmetologist and hairdresser at Nancy's Guys and Gals in Charlotte Hall, MD. She was also a baker and was a member of Bakers Union Local 118 in Washington D.C. She also worked at the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home. Tippy's favorite past time was spending quality time with her grandchildren. Helen enjoyed a taste of Southern Maryland seafood, but her favorite was crabs. A passion of Helen's was cooking and preparing holiday baked items to provide to family and friends. Helen enjoyed animals and was an avid dog lover. Predeceased by her parents and son, John E. Long, Helen is survived by her husband, Claude E. Long, Sr.; son, Claude E. Long, Jr.; daughter, Maria L. Long; son-in-law, Robert Trahan; sister, Pamela Cruz and 4 grandchildren, Nathaniel Long, Emmanuel Wright, Devon Trahan and Savannah Trahan. A Life Celebration Gathering will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2014 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm with Prayers at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday April 4, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Francis DeSales Church, 7185 Benedict Avenue, Benedict, MD 20612. Burial will be Private.
