Raymond George Dilworth, 81, of Valley Lee, MD passed away peacefully at his home on March 17, 2014, surrounded by his family. Born on July 28, 1932, in Jamaica, NY to the late Denis D.A. Dilworth and Agnes Gertrude Marie Ryan. He was number 13 of 15 children of which three remain; Agnes Rohr 96 of Jefferson, NY, Margaret Langley 90 of Solomon's Island, MD, and Lawrence Dilworth 83 of Willis, TX.
After losing both parents as a teen, Ray came to live with his sister Margaret and her husband Glenn Langley on Solomon's Island, MD in 1948. Ray graduated high school from Our Lady Star of the Sea in 1950. After graduation, Ray joined the United States Air Force and was a member of the 60th/7150th Air Police Squadron serving from 1950 – 1954 traveling to Texas and Germany. Ray had fond memories of his tour in Wiesbaden, Germany. Shortly after serving in the U.S. Air Force, he met and married, Vera Marie Saunders on October 26, 1957. Together they spent 50 years residing in Valley Lee, MD. Ray is predeceased by his wife Vera, and his children Raymond Jr. (Speedy), and infant daughter, Suzanne. Ray is survived by his 4 remaining children: Christine Nave (Lyndon) of Upper Marlboro, MD; Liz Walter (Bruce), Dave Dilworth, and Kay Adley (Scott) all of Valley Lee, MD; seven grandchildren: Karli Eade, Elayna Nave, Sean Adley, Kayla Walter, Ryan Walter, Michael Adley, & Dylan Walter; and one great grandchild, Caelin Ware. Ray "PapaDilly", was a devoted family man and always a reliable provider. He worked as a Postal Clerk at the U.S. Postal Service, Patuxent River, MD for 30 years; and as a part-time employee for Safeway for 19 years. In his "retirement years" he worked for the county government and the Wicomico Golf Course. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, gardening, fishing, gambling, scratch-offs, and spending time with his beloved family. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 20, 2014 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 21, 2014 at 10:00 AM in St. George's Catholic Church Valley Lee, MD with Father Paul Nguyen officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers; Lyndon Nave, Bruce Walter, Scott Adley, Ryan Walter, Dylan Walter, & Matthew Eade. Honorary Pallbearers: Sean Adley, Michael Adley, Derek Buckler, & Michael Ware. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Mary's, P.O. Box 625, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
