Glenda Louise Stelzer, 66, of La Plata, MD died peacefully on February 16, 2014. She was born on December 7, 1947 at Physicians Memorial Hospital in La Plata, MD to Harold F. and L. Minerva (Garner) Stelzer.

In her early years, Glenda lived in the Panama Canal Zone and the state of Hawaii where her father was stationed with the U.S. Army. Glenda graduated from La Plata High School with the Class of 1966. She attended the Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center in Fisherville, VA from which she was awarded a Certificate of Attainment in 1967 in the areas of Medical Terminology & Office Practices, Laboratory Procedures & Clinical Practices, Sterilization & Care of Medical Equipment, Typing I, II, English I, II, Anatomy I, II, Medical Ethics, Preclinical Theory, Record Keeping, and Business Machines.

Glenda worked for Charles County Social Services and for Civista Hospital in La Plata, MD. She was a life-long member of Christ Episcopal Church, Port Tobacco Parish in La Plata, MD where she enjoyed singing in the choir. Glenda was an active member of the United Cerebral Palsy of Southern Maryland from which she received certificates of recognition for her outstanding commitment and dedication to individuals with disabilities. Her interests also included playing the piano, all types of music, crocheting, cross stitching, bingo, word searches, and puzzles.

Glenda was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Fred and Vernon Edith (Perkins) Stelzer and her maternal grandparents, Lyon S. and Lelia B. (Posey) Garner; her parents, Master Sargent (retired) Harold F. and Lelia Minerva Stelzer; and adopted sister Peggy Sue Guilliam Welsh.

She is survived by an aunt, Gwynette Garner Piper of Prince Frederick, MD, an uncle, Francis Gragan, of LaPlata, MD, a niece Alison Guilliam, a nephew, Corey Guilliam both of Baltimore, MD and many cousins scattered throughout the United States.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 21, 2014 at 1PM at Christ Episcopal Church, 112 East Charles Street, La Plata, MD 20646. Interment will be in Mt. Rest Cemetery, Charles Street, La Plata, MD following the church service.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Epilepsy Foundation Chesapeake Region, La Plata, MD. Funeral arrangements were made by Raymond Funeral Home.
