Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Friend, Ruby Cathleen Sweeney of Mechanicsville, Maryland, was freed from her pain and suffering on Monday, February 11, 2008 at the age of 78. She was born July 11, 1929 in Micah, Virginia to Hattie Lee and Frank Elmore Thomas. She is survived by her children David Weldon Sweeney (Kay Yowaiski) of Mechanicsville, Maryland; Robert Edward Sweeney (Sandie) of Severna Park, Maryland; Carolyn Sweeney Johnson (Rey) of Highland, Utah and Ronald Eugene Sweeney (Mary Stewart) of Alexandria, Virginia; 12 grandchildren Tommy, David, Ross, Laura, James, John & Helen Sweeney, Erin Quade Herche and Gary, Jared, Ryan and Caitlyn Himmighoefer; 9 great-grandchildren Samantha, Darla and Caden Sweeney, Max, Aidan and Emma Herche, Haven, Zoe and Mia Himmighoefer and brother Albert J. Thomas of Fallston, Maryland. She was preceded in death by her parents; step-son Thomas Lyle Sweeney and brothers Clifton and Russell Thomas.

Ruby grew up in Cheltenham, Maryland and graduated from Gwynn Park High School in 1948. She married Thomas Weldon Sweeney in 1948 (divorced in 1977.) In 1966 she moved with her family from Prince Georges County to St. Mary's County. Prior to her retirement she worked for Besche Oil, Fenwick Ford, B&B Realty and Burch Oil. Springtime will be less colorful this year without Ruby's green thumb and her hummingbirds will miss her tender care. God be with you 'til we meet again.

Relatives and friends are invited to Mrs. Sweeney's Life Celebration at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. in Leonardtown, MD on Friday, February 15, 2008 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, February 16, 2008 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home Life Celebration Chapel. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens in Leonardtown, MD.
