Marie Celester Hamn, 84, was born on June 17, 1929, in Charles County, Maryland to the late Frances Holt. She was one of eight children. She peacefully departed this life on November 11, 2013.
Marie was affectionately known as, Mom, to her children, "The Sheriff," to her husband, Grandma to her grandchildren and Aunt Re to her Nieces and Nephews. Marie was joined in holy matrimony on May 14, 1955 to Frederick H. Hamn. Marie and Frederick have seven children, Chester Newman (deceased), Theodore "TC" Newman (Ruby), Terry Hamn (Florence), Eunice Hawkins (Cornell), Necola Cook, Lorri Hamn, Larry Hamn (Alice) and a special "like a son" Thomas "Tommy or TJ" Bowman (Janice). In addition to her son, Chester, she was also preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Regina, and Silvia, and her brother James. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, children, sisters, Judy (Devin), Audrey, and Yvette and brother, Wayne (Shirley), grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. Marie joined the Metropolitan United Methodist Church when she was a young child. She was an active member until her health began to fail and involved on several committees such as: The United Methodist Women, Communion Steward and The Golden Sunday, just to name a few. She was educated in the Charles County Public School System. Marie was mainly a home maker but before she retired she worked at the Naval Ordnance Station in Indian Head and Dart Drug Store in Bryans Road, MD. Marie was a very sweet, soft spoken and kind hearted person who would help and do anything for anyone. Marie loved to have family gatherings on holidays and anytime she could get the entire family together. She was a great cook and loved doing it and also loved to bake. Marie's favorite color was blue. She will be greatly missed by her family. Viewing will be held from 10:00am until Service 11:00am on Monday, November 18th at Metropolitan United Methodist Church, Indian Head, MD. Interment Church Cemetery.
