Charles "Charlie" Buck" Edward Alvey, Sr. 74, of Leonardtown, MD, formerly from La Plata, MD passed away on October 1, 2013 in Callaway, MD. Born on August 3, 1939 he was the son of the late Martha Elizabeth Alvey and George Henry Alvey, Sr.

Charles is survived by his children; Charles Edward Alvey, Jr. of NC., Daniel Eric Alvey and Vernon Dale Alvey both of Lusby, MD, 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Charles is also survived by his siblings; Roger G. Alvey of Mechanicsville, MD, Thomas J. Alvey of Hollywood, MD., Katherine R. Collins of Norfolk, VA, Betty A. Burch of Eastern Shore, MD., Mazie Burch of King George, VA., Jane A. Moreland of Calvert County, MD., Cora E. Buckler of Bushwood, MD., Mary L. Faries of California, MD, and Shirley J. Greenwell of Hollywood, MD.

He was preceded in death by his siblings; George H. Alvey, Lewis M. Alvey, John M. Alvey, and Dorothy M. Leonard, and Barbara Murphy.

Charlie attended school through the 8th grade then needed to go to work on the farm. He moved from La Plata, MD to St. Mary's County in 2010, and worked as a Truck Driver and deliveryman for Trueman Gas Company for 12 years. Charlie enjoyed hunting, fishing, crabbing, playing cards, throwing horseshoes, cookouts with family, playing his guitar and singing.

The family will receive friend on Monday, October 7, 2013, 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at 10:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Ruth Dixon officiating. Interment will follow in the La Plata Methodist Cemetery, Dentsville, MD. Pallbearers will be: Charles E. Alvey, Jr., Daniel E. Alvey, Vernon D. Alvey, Thomas J. Alvey, Roger Alvey, Sr., and Joseph A. Greenwell, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be: Robert Oliver, Francis L. Lacey, and Ray Stinnett.

Contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Mary's P.O. Box 625 Leonardtown, MD 20650, and/or the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.
