Elsie Hicks Head, 99, of Port Tobacco, MD, passed a way on Friday, August 30, 2013 at her home. She was born in Waldorf, Maryland, March 17, 1914.

She graduated from La Plata High School in l931 and worked for the C & P Telephone Company for 31 years until her retirement in l975. She was a Life Member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, La Plata United Methodist Church, Communication Workers of America, and member of the Maryland Republican Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald R. Head, Sr. and son, Donald R. Head, Jr., her parents Luther C. Hicks and Clarrissa Edwards Hicks and all her sisters and brothers: Beatrice Leonard, James Edwards Hicks, Lillian M. Goldsmith, Ruth C. Norris, Luther C. Hicks Jr., George E. Hicks, Helen I. Hindle, Louis A. Hicks and Ella Louise Hicks.

She is survived by her daughter Janice E. Clark, son-in-law Kenneth R. Clark, Jr. (Randy), daughter-in-law Millie Cornette Head; 5 grandchildren, Janice Lynn Clark, Kenneth R. Clark, III (Jennifer), Donald R. Clark (Karen), Mary Christina Coffey (Clyde), Donald R. Head III (Jackie) and 10 great grandchildren: Don and Tommy Head; Katelyn, Emily, Mackenzie, Kenny and Sophie Clark; Jake Levy; Rex and Parker Coffey.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, September 4, 2013, from 11am to 1pm with service at 1:00 at the La Plata United Methodist Church, 3 Port Tobacco Rd., La Plata, MD. Interment to follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, MD. Pallbearers will be Kenneth R. Clark III, Donald R. Clark, Donald R. Head III, Clyde G. Coffey, Donald R. Head IV, and Thomas C. Head. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jake Levy, Kenny Clark, Buddy Hindle, George Hindle, J.T. Hindle, Louis Hindle, Ricky Hicks, and Dale Cornette.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be sent to Hospice of Charles County, 2505 Davis Road, Waldorf, MD. 20603 or La Plata United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 2824, La Plata, MD 20646.
