Joseph "Donald" Cooksey 86 of Pomfret, MD died August 9, 2013 in La Plata, MD. Donald was born on March 8, 1927 in Washington, DC to the late Eleven and Ethelyn Cooksey. He is also predeceased by his beloved wife Pearl Louise Cooksey, brothers Everett, Harold, and Norris Cooksey, and his sister Doris Watson.
He is survived by his sons Dennis Cooksey, David Cooksey (Mirella), daughter Susan Martin (George), grandchildren Vikki Dietzel (Danny), Karie Amos (Donny), Ginger Kamrath (Jeff), Joey Martin, and Michelle Maines (Craig), great grandchildren Dalton Amos and Landon Maines. Donald served in the US Army from October 5, 1946 until March 4, 1948 receiving the WW II Victory Medal and Army Occupation Medal. He retired from the Washington DC Fire Department as Battalion Chief. He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, golf and baseball. He was also a member of the Morningside VFW and Elks Lodge. The family will receive friends on Monday August 12, 2013 from 6 to 8 PM at the Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, 211 St. Mary's Ave., La Plata, MD 20646. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 13th at 11 AM. Interment to follow at the St. Joseph's Church Cemetery, Pomfret, MD.
