Swailes, Violet Marie (Age 72) of Indian Head, MD

Violet Marie Swailes, daughter of the late James M. and the late Martha Elizabeth Swailes, was born October 9, 1940. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Mary Estelle Jones and brothers, Thomas, Leroy, James and Raymond Swailes.

She attended Charles County public schools graduating from Pomonkey High School in 1960. In her youth, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined Macedonia Baptist Church where she served as a member of the women ministries over her many years of faithful church service.

Violet was employed by Ely's Department Store, Indian Head, MD for 27 years until her retirement in 1991.

Violet was known as "Tootie" to most family and friends. She spent her free time babysitting, sewing, doing crafts, baking, doing yard work, visiting family, attending cookouts and eating at different restaurants with her sister, "Susie." In her later years, she was totally devoted to nurturing her grandchildren.

On Sunday, July 21, 2013, at the University of MD Baltimore Hospital after a brief illness, God called His faithful servant "Violet Swailes" to rest in his arms.

Left to cherish her memory, is her son Michael and daughter-in-law, Willie M. Swailes; grandson, Zaire Swailes; granddaughters, Zhani Swailes and Paris Petticoles; and great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Edmond; four sisters, Dorothy Yates, Gladys Woodland, Katie Swailes and Margaret Davis; brother, Charles Swailes; three brothers-in-law, Joseph Woodland, Nelson Barkley and Kevin Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.

Her viewing will be held from 10am until time of service 11am on Saturday, July 27th at Macedonia Baptist Church, 2645 Marshall Hall Road, Bryans Road, MD. Interment Church Cemetery.
