Maria Angelia Torres of Waldorf, MD died on July 23, 2013 at her residence. She was 62 years old. She was born on September 3, 1950 in Havana, Cuba. She immigrated to the United States in 1969 and later became a naturalized U. S. citizen – she was very proud to be an American.
She was very active at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Waldorf, singing in the choir for Spanish Mass and serving as a lector and on the Parish Council. She cooked every month for many years for the Angel's Watch Shelter in Hughesville, MD and was a frequent blood donor to the American Red Cross. Mrs. Torres was a self-employed manicurist for 40 years. Some of the things she enjoyed were drinking Cuban coffee, anything with chocolate, beach vacations, spending time with family and friends, and praising God. Despite battling cancer for 7 months, her faith was unwavering. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Retired Sgt. Gerard "Jerry" Torres, Charles County Sheriff's Office; her son, Angelo Michael Torres; her daughter, Adriana Marie Torres; her sister, Aurora Caridad Aponte; and her many loving cousins and godchildren. Friends received on Friday, July 26, 2013 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM with a Wake Service at 7PM at Raymond Funeral Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646. Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 11AM at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 3320 St. Peter's Drive, Waldorf, MD 20601 with Interment to follow at the church cemetery.
