Violet Orrie Guy, 91, of California, MD, passed away on July 22, 2013 at the home of her granddaughter Audrey Maxwell in Solomons, MD.
Born December 24, 1921 in Dufur, OR, she was the daughter of the late Orrin Whitney Moore and Frances Viola Wolff. Violet grew up on her parent's farm near Dufur, OR, which was adjacent to her grandparents James W. and Orrie E. Moore, and her grandmother Elvira Mendenhall Moore. In 1940 Violet graduated from the Dalles High School. In 1947, she received a bachelor's degree in Medical Technology from the University of Minnesota (UM). While attending UM she met her future husband and joined the Phi Mu Sorority. On May 22, 1948, she married her husband of 65 years, Eugene James Guy, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They had two children, Jeffrey Jon and Julie Elizabeth. Violet was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was member of the League of Women Voters for over 50 years. In 1998, Violet took up the hobby of genealogy. She began researching her ancestry and subsequently joined the Gallup Family Association, the Mendenhall Family Association, the New England Historic Genealogical Society, the Nantucket Historical Association and the Daughters of the American Revolution. In addition to her husband, Violet is survived by her children, Jeffrey Jon Guy of Lehigh Acres, FL and Julie Elizabeth Thur, of California, MD, eight grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Family will receive friends on Friday, July 26, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. in the Brinsfield Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Hollywood, MD.
