Ursula H. "Miss Ursula" Pumphrey, age 63 died Monday, January 7, 2008 at her residence in Lusby, Md. after a lengthy illness, due to cancer. She was born Ursula Hildegard Cramm on September 14, 1944 in Kitzingen, Germany, to Alfred Johann Cramm and Johanna Auguste Seynstahl, and raised by her mother and step-father Casmir F. Vedock. She moved to the United States in June 1955, was raised in Fort Meade, Md. and attended Arundel High School, and moved to Calvert County in the mid 1990's. Miss Ursula, as many called her, joined the Solomon's Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department in 1997. She became an Emergency Medical Technician in May of 1998, served as Rescue Chief for two years, and until her death held the title of Vice President.
She also worked as a medical billing clerk for All American Ambulance Service in Lothian, Md. In her free time she enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, working crossword puzzles, and serving the community as a volunteer as an EMS provider. In addition to her parents Miss Ursula was preceded in death by her brother James Vedock. She is survived her devoted daughters Patricia "Trish" Miller, of Owings, Md.; Michelle "Shelly" Miller, of Lusby, Md.; Jennifer "Jenny" Jones and her husband Patrick "Mike" Jones Sr. of St. Leonard, Md. Also surviving are her grandchildren Amanda Adams and her husband Steve of Fredericksburg, VA; Paige Christensen of Owings, Md.; Anthony and Courtney Miller of Lusby, Md. and Patrick Jones, Jr. of St. Leonard, Md. and her great grandchildren Collin and Ethan Adams of Fredericksburg, VA; her brothers John Vedock and his wife Marlene of Arizona and Michael Vedock of Colorado. In addition to her family, Ursula is survived by her dear friend John "Capt. Robbie" Robinson of Lusby, Md. The family received friends at the Rausch Funeral Home, P.A., 20 American Lane, Lusby, Md. on Thursday, January 10, 2008 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:30 – 9:00 P.M. The officers and members of Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department held a fraternal prayer service for Miss Ursula at 8:00 P.M. Thursday during the visitation. Funeral services were held on Friday, January 11, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Rausch Funeral Home in Lusby with Reverend Byron Brought of Friendship U.M.
