Marshall McGovern of Calvert County, Maryland passed away on May 23, 2013 at the age of 96.
Marshall was a retired Air Force Lt. Colonel who served in WWII as a service pilot, transporting aircraft and supplies from the US to the European war theater. Among his many deployments, he was stationed in: Wiesbaden,Germany, Taranto Italy, Goose Bay Greenland, Chile, Ecuador, and Panama. In addition to his prowess as a pilot, "Mac" was a brilliant mechanical engineer whose ingenuity and skills were admired by all who knew him. There was no mechanical problem he could not solve. Marshall is preceded in death by his parents William and Sophia McGovern, sister Marjorie, and son Ronald. He is survived by his wife of 72 years - Virginia, son Stephen, and daughter Jan. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Miranda, Rita, Anahita, Andrew, Nathan and 3 great-grandchildren; Kaitlyn, Jacob, and Troy. A visitation is scheduled for Sunday May 26, 2013 from 9am to 11am at Huntt Funeral Home Waldorf, Maryland. A funeral service will follow immediately thereafter beginning at 11am. A reception will follow, beginning at 1pm at the parish hall at St. Paul's Church in Baden, MD. There will be a private burial at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery in Cheltenham, MD.
