Lionel Dwight Marbury, son of Madeline Marbury Sylvie and the late Thomas "Tommy" Marbury, was born on November 19, 1953 in Washington, D.C. Dwight or "Dike," as he was more affectionately known to family, suddenly stepped into eternity on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at the Civista Medical Center, La Plata, MD. He was 59 years young.

Dwight's early education began at St. Mary Star of the Sea School in Indian Head, MD but his High School years were in the Public Schools of Charles County where he was a graduate of Lackey High School. He worked various jobs throughout his life, including Truck Driver and Laborer, but retired from the workforce early due to his health. Recently, he was assisting the Thomas family with care giving duties for their mother, since he lived very close to the family home. Family and friends could always count on him to lend a helping hand no matter the task.

Although he loved to fish and socialize with his friends, he most enjoyed his visits with his two girls and grandchildren. He also regularly accompanied his mother to Mass at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pomfret, MD. Dwight's loving heart was as big as his stature. He was a gentle giant who had a way with children and was kind and patient, even with the littlest of them. He had a great since of humor and could make you laugh even in the toughest of times. He also could be quite the "talker," often keeping his grandmother, the late Helen Carter and anyone else that would listen, engaged in random conversations. But, he also had a way of encouraging you with a hearty laugh, joke or a knowing look. He will be missed.

In addition to his father, Tommy, and step-father, Numa Sylvie, preceding him in death are his grandparents, Keith and Helen Carter and Thomas and Helen Marbury, aunt, Marilyn Rotan, uncles, Benjamin "Brother," Kenneth "Kenny" and Carl "Piggy" Carter.

Left to cherish many fond memories are his daughters, Tiffany and Ebony, grandchildren, Imahnee and Kingston, devoted mother, Madeline "Tat" Marbury Sylvie, brother, Thomas "Dwaine" Marbury (Lorraine), sisters, Deborah "Debbie" Smith (Paul) and Denise "Nene" Hargrove, aunts, Barbara, Romaine, Patsy, Sharon and Shelly, uncles, Bobby, Garret and Calvin, nieces, nephews, including a very devoted nephew, Tironn Marbury, great nieces and nephews, cousins and special friends, Joy Sheff, whom he has known since childhood, Daryl Gray, Tyrone Cooper, Cornell Posey and Philistine Harvey and many other relatives and friends.

His viewing will be held from 10:00am until time of Service, 11:00am on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, MD 20640. Interment Heritage Memorial Cemetery, Waldorf, MD.
