Elizabeth Flavia Chappelear Hoffman, 90, formerly of Waldorf, MD passed May 13, 2013 at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home. Born May 21, 1922 in Washington, D.C. she was one of triplet daughters born to Thomas Irving Chappelear, Sr. and Mae Bessie Stinnett Chappelear.

Raised in Benedict, MD, Flavia attended Hughesville High School. She and her sisters, Ellen Rose and Mary Virginia went into the nursing profession and graduated from Providence Hospital School of Nursing. They all entered the U.S. Army Air Corps as nurses. Flavia served from 1943 - 1946.

In 1952 she married George Joseph Hoffman and began to raise a family. She continued to work as a nurse at Physicians Memorial Hospital in La Plata, MD, and the Health Departments in Cheverly and Clinton, MD retiring in 1981. Flavia loved her church, St. Francis deSales in Benedict, travelling, sports, crabbing and the water.

Flavia was predeceased by her parents, husband, grandson, Scott Justin Hutchison, sister, Ellen Rose Houser, brothers, Thomas Irving Chappelear, Jr. and Francis DeSales Chappelear.

She is survived by her children, Thomas Lawrence Hoffman, Sr. (Debra) of Hughesville, MD and Mary Ellen Hutchinson (Scott) of Benedict, MD; grandchildren, Thomas Lawrence Hoffman, Jr., Alison Noelle Hoffman and Cristina Marie Hutchison; great grandchildren, Jacob Scott Hoffman and Adison Lynn Harris; sister, Mary Virginia Chappelear; loving caregiver, Sherille Johnson and many other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends for Flavia's Life Celebration on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 from 2:00 - 4:00p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00p.m. with prayers at 7:00p.m.at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 10:00a.m. at St. Francis deSales Church, 7185 Benedict Ave., Benedict, MD 20612. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suitland, MD. Pallbearers will be Irving Chappelear, Todd Connick, Harry Brown, Jr., Joe Kassiris, Roscoe Chase and Tommy Hayden.
