Samuel Calvin Bowling, of Newburg, died March 22, 2013 at the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home in Charlotte Hall, MD. He was 75 years old. Born November 5, 1937 in Faulkner, Maryland, he was the son of the late Wallace and Martha Bowling.
Mr. Bowling was a lifelong farmer of tobacco, grain and cattle on his family farm in Newburg that he farmed with his brothers. He served with the United States Army and was stationed at Ft. Benning, Georgia during the Cuban Missile Crisis. As a young man, Mr. Bowling played for the Glasva baseball team with his brothers and cousins. He was an umpire for the Charles County Little League for over a decade and coached countless baseball teams. He was an avid raccoon hunter and loved all of his hunting dogs. He loved a good pitch card game and was a frequent patron at card parties. He also enjoyed cheering for the Redskins and playing golf. His greatest passion was his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Hannah Hancock and his brother James Bowling. He is survived by his sons, Bucky Bowling and his wife Diane, Wally Bowling and his wife Dawn, Danny Bowling and his wife Brianna, and Steve Bowling and his wife Amy; his grandchildren Kristin, Kyle, Forrest, Drew, Georgia, Riley, Kamryn, Michelle, Jason and Paul and nine great grandchildren; he is also survived by his brothers Edward Bowling, Charles Bowling and Howard Bowling and sisters Margaret Bowling and Betty Ann Davis. Visitation will be held at St. Ignatius Church Chapel Point 8825 Chapel Point Road, Port Tobacco, MD 20677 on Monday, March 25 from 2PM to 4PM and from 6PM to 8PM with a funeral mass on Tuesday, March 26 beginning at 10AM. Interment will take place at the Dentsville Methodist Cemetery in Dentsville. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of St. Mary's County P. O.
