Donald Leroy Adkins, 78, of Waldorf, MD died January 11, 2013 at his residence. Born August 10, 1934 in Staunton, VA, he was the son of Harry W. Adkins and Bertie R. Munroe Adkins.
Donald was a truck driver for Safeway Foods. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #2332 in Camp springs, MD. and also belonged to the Southwest Club. As a child growing up, he was a champion marble player. He enjoyed telling jokes, dancing, going to the beach and casinos. He especially loved his family. Donald was predeceased by his parents; wife, Patricia Ann Adkins; son, Donald Adkins, II; brothers, Melvin, James and Johnny Adkins and sister, Betty Vermillion. He is survived by nephew, Joey N. Purcarey; brother, Steven Adkins of Florida and sisters, Carolyn McDonald and Mary Ellen Stone, both of Elkridge, MD. He is also survived by 1 grandchild, Rianna Purcarey and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00p.m. at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, 211 St. Mary's Ave., La Plata, MD followed by a service at 12:00 noon.
