Richard C. Mortimer "Dick" died October 30, 2012 in Waldorf, Maryland at the age of 73. Mr. Mortimer was born on October 14, 1939 in Washington, D.C. and was raised in Prince Georges County, Maryland.

Mr. Mortimer graduated from Surrattsville High School in 1957 and then The University of Maryland at College Park. After graduating college he went on to combine two of his passions; music and teaching and became an instrumental music teacher in the Prince Georges County School system before retiring in 1988.

After retiring from teaching, he then went on to work full time for the US Postal Service where he had worked part time during his teaching career. He retired from the Postal Service in 1993. After retiring from his second career, his love for music and teaching brought him to the Southern Maryland Concert Band where he played and later became the conductor. He also became a substitute music teacher in the Charles County School system up until the time he became sick.

He enjoyed playing golf, working in his yard and spending time with his family.

Mr. Mortimer is preceded in death by his wife Dorthy, brother Ronald and sisters Evelyn and Arlene.

Survivors include: sons: Richard E. Mortimer and his wife Jennifer of Falls Church Virginia, Lawrence E. of Waldorf, Maryland and Jonathan C. Mortimer and his wife Regina of Southlakes Texas, daughter: Candice Taylor of La Plata. Grandchildren; Caio Mortimer and his wife Ariane, Courtney Allen, Gillian and Enzo Mortimer and Lawrence Mortimer, Jr.. Great-grandchild: Larissa Mortimer.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 pm. at The Huntt Funeral Home, 3035 Old Washington Road, Waldorf, Maryland 206012 where funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 8, at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, Maryland.The Rev. Jim Farmer will officiate. Pallbearers will be: Mark Calaney, Joe Lusk, Chris Lech, Caio Mortimer, Dave Turacy and Ron Johns. Honorary pallbearers: Fred Ritter and Bob Ferguson.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Mr. Mortimer's name to the Hospice of Charles County.
