Hazel Marie Burton, 86 of Bel Alton, MD died on October 5, 2007 at Genesis Elder Care, La Plata, MD.

Born on November 14, 1920 in Deer Park, MD, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Bessie May Shillingburg. Mrs. Burton was a Homemaker and has resided in this area for 60 years. She was also a member of Charles County Homemakers, was a 4-H leader for 20 years, Sunday school teacher for 40 years, member of DAR, Charter member of Bel Alton Volunteer Fire Dept, President of Bel Alton Homemakers Club for 30 years, was Honorary Chaplin of Bel Alton Volunteer Fire Dept. for many years, Supervisor of the Home Ec. Building at Charles County Fair, for several years, and was member of Mountain Lake Park Order of the Grange.

Mrs. Burton was the beloved wife of the late Robert B. Burton. She is also preceded in death by brothers, Raymond and Lloyd Shillingburg, sister, Mae L. Nicholson, son inlaw, William D. Pilkerton and a special friend, Dorothy Bowie.

Survived by children, Kayann M. Pilkerton of Bushwood, MD, and Gary G. Burton & wife, Louise of Great Mills, MD, brother, Lee Shillingburg of Steyer, MD, grandchildren, Theresa L. Bonner, Wendy J. Farrell, and William B. Pilkerton, and great-grandchildren, Christopher M. Sherman, Jack B. Pilkerton, Lindsey A. Farrell, William B. Pilkerton, and Travis L. Farrell.

Viewing will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 from 2-4 & 6-8PM at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 211 St. Mary's Ave., La Plata, MD. Funeral Services held on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at 11AM at La Plata United Methodist Church with Reverend Ken McDonald officiating. Interment to follow at Dentsville Methodist Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Edward Armsworthy, Blaine Pilkerton, Timmy Farrell, Bill Bonner, Allen Bowling and Harry Arnold. Honorary pallbeares will be Theresa Bonner, Wendy Farrell, and Jane Pilkerton.
