Betty Jane Hodge Anderson, 87, of Waldorf, Maryland, died on September 17, 2012 at Civista Medical Center in La Plata. Born on August 22, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Elmer A. Barkman and the late Lillian A. Piehn and the adopted daughter of the late Carl H. Jacobson.

Mrs. Anderson was a very accomplished woman, having graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pre Medical. She continued her education in Financial Planning degree, IBM MTST Supervisory degree. She then continued her education at George Washington University. She worked at George Washington University where she was and executive aide in the Department of Anatomy, until her retirement.

Her loves were ballroom dancing, animals, classical music, organ, books, sightseeing, traveling, attending Oxon Hill Lutheran Church, sign language but most importantly, loving her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hila W. Anderson; her daughter Roberta Idell Ellis; her sister Carol Louise Jacobson.

She is survived by her daughter Lisa Anne Hodge of Waldorf, MD; her sister Audrey Johnson of Peachtree City, GA; her brother Al Barkman of Knoxville, TN; her grandchildren Michael Shawn Ellis, Christopher Shannon Ellis, Tonya Danette Ellis, Aaron David Swanton, Nathan Robert Gilroy, Kellie Anne Price, Charles Michael Price, and Candace Leigh Price; her seven great grandchildren; her caregivers Denise Coby, Patricia Leftridge, Maria Franchini, Sherry Roberson, and Diane Cooks; also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorial celebration will be held on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at Oxon Hill Lutheran Church, 3415 Brinkley Road, Temple Hills, Maryland 20748 with the Reverend Ken Schnepp officiating. Interment will be private at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
