Joyce Jean Bowie of Port Tobacco, MD died on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at her residence with Hospice. She was 69 years old.
Mrs. Bowie was a technical writer/editor with the Department of Navy at Naval Ordnance Station in Indian Head, MD for 13 plus years. She spent her entire life loving her family and especially her grandchildren. Her hobbies included ceramics, gardening, and sewing. She was especially blessed by many family and friends who celebrated her 50th anniversary party one year ago. She was a fantastic cook who shared her gifts with all her knew her. Daughter of the late Harold "Jack" Garrett and the late Jean Mills Garrett. Predeceased by her parents. Survived by her husband of 50 years Elwyn Gerald Bowie, Sr.; two daughters Alice Jean "Jeannie" (Jim) Flynn of Oakton, VA and Julia Elaine Bowie of Great Mills, MD; one son Elwyn G. "Jerry" (Brenda) Bowie, Jr. of Welcome, MD; four brothers Ronald L. Garrett of La Plata, MD, Robert Garrett of MISS, James E. Garrett of Welcome, MD, and Kenneth W. Garrett of DE; and one sister Beverly E. Saul of Brandywine, MD. Also survived by 7 grandchildren: Ryan Bowie, Amanda Flynn, Jimmy Flynn, Sarah Berry, Samantha Bowie, Jeffrey Flynn, and Steven Berry. Visitation: Tuesday, September 18, 2012 from 2-4PM and 6- 8PM with Prayers at 7PM at Marbury Baptist Church in Marbury, MD. Funeral Service: Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at 11AM at Marbury Baptist Church Clergy: Rev. Tim Bean Interment: Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf, MD. Pallbearers: Timothy, William, and Eric Garrett, Rodney and Roger Tipton, and Russell Bowie.
