Edna June Zimmerman Tedrow, 98, of Stoystown, PA died October 15, 2007 in St. Mary's Nursing Center, Leonardtown, MD.

Born June 15, 1909 in Stoystown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Frank C. and Florence M. Zimmerman.

She was educated in local schools and graduated from Boswell High School in 1928. She went on to graduate from Hood College in 1933 with a degree in Zoology, and obtained a Masters degree in social work from the University of Pittsburgh.

After a career as a social worker in western Pennsylvania during the Great Depression, she married Norman Paul (Teddy) Tedrow in 1937 and moved with him and their family successively to Hardwick, MA, Wellsville, NY, Clarksburg, WV, and Storrs, CT, where they lived 53 years. In their retirement, they enjoyed spending summers at a family farm near Stoystown.

Her life was shaped by her upbringing on the farm, her zeal for the rights of women to control their own lives, her love of music, and by a great compassion for people in need or disadvantaged. Until her death, she never graduated from her role as wife, mother, grandmother, or great-grandmother. Her family was of utmost importance to her. She had a buoyant, optimistic spirit which she applied to many volunteer activities in her church and community.

She is survived by her daughter, Caroline Beth D'Wynter (Gerald) of Avenue, MD, four sons, Allan C. Tedrow (Mary Jean) of Clifton Park, NY, Paul M. Tedrow (Prabha) of Lexington, MA, David C. Tedrow of Annapolis, MD, and James R. Tedrow (Jeanne) of Raleigh, NC, sister, Eleanor Kunsman of Duncansville, PA, two sisters-in-law, Blanche Purbaugh and Eleanor Romesburg of Rockwood, PA, brother-in-law, John C. F. Tedrow of Edison, NJ, 11 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 11 nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Edna was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, N. Paul Tedrow and grandchild, Paul Michael Tedrow.

A Memorial Service will be conducted Saturday, October 27, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the Stoystown United Church of Christ on Main Street.
