Ellsworth James "J.R." Lew, Jr. of Waldorf, MD died on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 in Sommerville, WV. He was 49 years old.

Mr. Lew was a senior network administrator and facilities security officer at Applied Integrated Technologies in Greenbelt, MD and was a Retired Non-Commissioned Airborne Officer with the United States Army where he received the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, the Southwest Asia Service Medal, and numerous other medals. He served in the Desert Storm Desert Shield Operation.

He was also a member of St. Basil Roman Catholic Church in Pittsburgh, PA. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, he was a craftsman specializing in wood working, and loved fishing. He was a family man who loved to tell jokes. His favorite shows were the Deadliest Catch, Swamp People, and Deadwood. He loved to work with computers and other technical devices and was known as Mr. Lew to all the neighborhood kids who always came to him for fix-ups for basketballs and hoops, football, and other things that needed mending. He bought treats for the kids and trick-or-treat at his house was year-round. He was a wonderful loving father and husband. He will surely be missed. Son of the late Ellsworth James Lew, Sr. and the late Bernice Heigl Lew.

Predeceased by his parents.

Survived by his wife of 24 years Ava Marie Gardner Lew; two sons Darrick Hiram Jurden, II of Marina, CA and Joshua Ellsworth Lew of Waldorf, MD; four brothers Thomas J. Lew of Pittsburgh, PA, Raymond C. Lew of Carlisle, PA, Robert K. (Francis) Lew of FL, and Joseph J. (Sarah) Lew from Middleburgh, FL; three sisters Christine (Joseph) Shessler of Pittsburgh, PA, Susan Amos of FL, and Janet (Douglas) Shelenberger of PA; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation: Friday, August 17, 2012 from 12 Noon until time of Funeral Service at 2PM at Raymond Funeral Chapel (5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646). Clergy: Rev. Mark Roberson. Interment: At a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
