John Frederick "Freddie" Robertson, Sr., 60, of Port Tobacco, passed away peacefully at his home on March 20, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. Freddie was born in La Plata, MD to the late George W. (Capt. Billy) Robertson, Sr. and Audrey C. Robertson. He was educated in the Charles County public schools.

In 1973, he was married to the former Karen A. Stine at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Issue, MD. They have two children.

Freddie turned his passion for fishing and being on the water into a successful career as a commercial crabber. He was also owner of Robertson's Lawn Care. Freddie was a lifetime member of Bel Alton Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Chief Engineer. Over the years he received numerous awards for the number of emergency calls answered and was awarded the prestigious Firefighter of the Year award in 2000. An avid hunter, Freddie enjoyed spending time outdoors and camping with his family and friends. He greatest love was spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Karen; his son, John and wife Stephanie of Newburg; and a daughter Stephanie, and her fiancée Tyrone Spriggs of Bel Alton, and five grandchildren, Eric, Tina, and Sara Robertson on Newburg, and AJ and Jabari Robertson of Bel Alton. He also leaves brothers; George W. (Billy) Robertson, Jr. (Candy) of Bel Alton, Joe Robertson (Pam) of Florida, Rocky Graves (Claire) of Newburg, and sisters; Connie Hendrix (Bill) of Colonial Beach, VA, Becky Robertson of La Plata, Peggy Robertson of Port Tobacco, Celene Graves of La Plata, and Deloris Kenny of Hagerstown. In addition, he is survived by in-laws; Sherry (Gale) Pilkerton of Cobb Island, Cathy (Butch) Murphy of Newburg, Lois (Roy) Parker of La Plata, Joey Stine of Newburg, Tommy (Nellie) Stone of Charlotte Hall, as well as several nieces and nephews along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know him.

He is preceded in death by his father, George W. (Capt. Billy) Robertson, Sr., his step-mother, Stella Robertson, his in-laws; Joseph "Jody" Stine and Elizabeth "Toots" Stine and his niece, Shannon Murphy.

Freddie touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, and maintained his trademark sense of humor and laugh all the way to the end.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Freddie's Life at the Bel Alton Volunteer Fire Department and Emergency Medical Service in Bel Alton on Thursday, March 22, 2012 from 2-4 pm & 6-8 pm with Fireman's Prayers at 7 pm. A funeral service will follow at the Fire Department on Friday, March 23, 2012 at 10 am. The Deacon George L'Hereux will officiate. Pallbearers will be George W. Robertson, III, Joseph Stine, III, Bernard Shymansky, Jr. Joseph Murphy, Jr., Leonard Murphy, James Jackson, Jr. Richard Jackson, Cory Frye, & James Hurst.
