Douglas "Richard" Butler, 60, of Mechanicsville, MD, passed away on February 23, 2012 at his residence. He was born to Robert Clifford Butler and Minnie Lee (Lyons) Butler in Laurens, South Carolina on November 26, 1951.

Richard was employed at Washington Air Compressor Rental Company as a Branch Manager. He was a lifetime member of VFW #1627. Richard also loved playing golf, spending time with his grandchildren, and working in the yard and around his house.

He is predeceased by his father, Robert Clifford Butler and his sister, Carolyn Taylor.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Linda Frances Butler; his 3 children, Stacy Burkheiser (Timothy), Jason Butler (Keisha), of Mechanicsville, MD and Richard Distefano (Cheri), of Charlotte Hall, MD; his sister, Brenda Hodges; his 2 brothers, David Butler and Steve Butler, his 5 grandchildren, Johnathan Kohlwey, Makayla Burkheiser, Jacob Burkheiser, Rachel Distefano, and Rick Distefano; and many other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends for a Life Celebration on Thursday, March 1, 2012 from 2PM to 4PM and from 6PM to 8PM at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, Maryland 20622. A Service will be held at 11AM on Friday, March 2, 2012, here at Brinsfield-Echols, Charlotte Hall, MD. Interment will follow on Friday to Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, MD 20623.
