Henry Herman Gehring, Jr. of Hughesville, MD died on Friday, February 3, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital in Leonardtown, MD. He was 83 years old.
Mr. Gehring was a Store Keeper with Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) for 44 years and a Veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean conflict. He was a long-time member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bryantown and a life member of the American Legion Post in Hughesville, MD. In his youth he played baseball as a pitcher with the Hughesville-Bryantown League. He was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan and an animal lover. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Son of the late Herman Gehring and the late Barbara Hoffman Gehring. Predeceased by his parents and two late brothers, Elwood and Bernard Gehring. Survived by his wife of 58 years, Carol Drinks Gehring and three daughters, Patricia (David) Derecola of Indian Head, MD, Judy (Carl) Brown of Welcome, MD, and Jennifer Gehring of Hughesville, MD. Also survived by four grandchildren, Erin, Kasey, William, and Carl II. Visitation: Monday, February 6, 2012 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM with Wake Service at 7PM at Raymond Funeral Chapel (5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646). Mass of Christian Burial: Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 11AM at St. Mary's Bryantown Catholic Church. Clergy: Fr. Rory Conley. Interment: Church Cemetery.
