Nora Favier, or Nofie to her family and close friends, passed away Tuesday, January 24th. Lately of La Plata, Nora's life took her to far reaches of the world from her birthplace in County Kerry, Ireland. From Tel Aviv to London and the South of France, Nora made her first home in Oxon Hill raising her three boys: Marc, Paul and John.
Nora was a thoroughly modern woman - a feminist, a free-spirit and an astute businesswoman. She sought every opportunity to improve herself and others, particularly women, by empowering them to take hold of their lives, destinies and identities. Nora encouraged her friends and family to educate themselves, explore their interests and passions, and move beyond whatever roles society or circumstance might have established ahead of free will. In 1980 Nora began anew in La Plata, opening Casey Jones across the railroad tracks that reminded her of her home in Ireland. In recent years, Nora enjoyed her time raising her granddaughter, Brynn and as she said, "staying busy." Nora will be remembered by her many brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dearest friends. She is survived by her son Paul and her grandchildren Austin, Brynn, Julia, Corbin and Sydney. Nora always said "Don't miss someone, think of them whilst they're away." We'll be thinking of her, always. The family will receive friends on Saturday January 28th from 2 to 5 pm with a celebration of her life at 4 pm. at the Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, 211 St. Mary's Ave. La Plata, Md. 20646. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to: National Museum of Women in the Arts, 1250 New York Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20005. In memoriam of Nora Favier a plaque will be named in her memory in the Great Hall Balustradeso. Arrangements provided by Arehart-Echols Funeral Home. |
