William Francis McCloskey, 89, of Waldorf, MD, died on November 26, 2011 at his residence. William was born on August 19, 1922 in Providence, RI.

William was the son of the late William Francis McCloskey and Mary Ellen Crocker McCloskey.

He was a World War II Veteran who was stationed at Schoefield Barracks during the attack on Pearl Harbor. William saw action on New Guinea, Munda, Philippines; injured on Luzon and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. William began his career of public service with the District of Columbia Fire Department on July 6, 1950 as a Fire Fighter Technician with Engine 16. He retired from this on September 1, 1969. After his retirement, he served as a Bailiff for the 5th District Court of Maryland, retiring in 1985.

He was preceded in death by his infant son and his daughter, Tara McCloskey Merritt of Mechanicsville, MD.

William is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dolores Frances Roche McCloskey; his children William McCloskey (wife, Beverly) of Edgewater, MD, Joseph McCloskey (wife, Cindy) of Richmond, VA, Raymond McCloskey (wife, Tracey) of Hughesville, MD, Sue Anne Evans of Centennial, CO, Dennis McCloskey (wife, Denise) of Waldorf, MD, Matthew McCloskey (wife, Debbie) of Lusby, MD; his son-in-law Robert Merritt of Chesapeake Beach, MD; his 24 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends for a Viewing on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. Prayers will be held at 7:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 3320 St. Peter's Church Road, Waldorf, MD 20601. Interment will be on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 10:00am at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, MD 20623.
