Dorothy L. Blair born January 31, 1939 in Washington, DC to James and Mary Young, departed this life on Sunday, October 9, 2011 in Civista Hospital, LaPlata, Maryland.
Dorothy (affectionately known to many as Dot or Dottie Boo) attended Prince George's County Public Schools. She worked for many years at the Indian Head Naval Ordnance Station. Dorothy was united in Holy Matrimony to Marshall Gene Blair. Their union was blessed with four children, Marshall (Gene), Diane, Gregory and Alan. Some of her favorite hobbies were going to bingo, playing LCR, but the slots had become her best friend. She enjoyed cooking dinner on Sundays and making her famous iced tea; just being in the presence of her family, especially the grandchildren. Family and friends often called on her to bring her famous "potato salad" to reunions and parties. Some of her most enjoyable moments were spending time with her great grandchildren. She also enjoyed jumping in the car and riding to the malls to shop and stopping to eat some good 'ole Popeye's. Dorothy was loved dearly as a wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt, nana and friend. She will be missed but never forgotten by her loved ones. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Mary (Holly) Young and James Young, Sr. and a long-time companion, George Proctor. She leaves to cherish her many memories, four devoted children, Marshall (Gene), Gregory, Alan and Diane; ten grandchildren, Tamika, Timothy, Jokisha, Eric, Kaya, Terrika, Gregory II, Donte, Davon and Travis; 15 great-grandchildren, two brothers, James Young, Jr. and Phillip (Andrew) Young, and two sisters-in-law, Doris and Edith (Tootie), three daughters-in-law, Brenda, Jennifer and Sherrie, and one son-in-law, Joseph (Joe); one adopted (play-daughter), Fannie Young. She also leaves behind a devoted friend Fern (Wood) Brown and a long- time special friend Eleanor Johnson. Viewing, 9:30am until Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00am Friday, October 14, 2011 at St. John's Catholic Church, 8910 Old Branch Avenue, Clinton, Maryland. Interment, Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton, Maryland. Arrangements provided by Thornton Funeral Home. |
