David Andrew Slaughter passed peacefully on October 5th after a gradual decline in health. He was surrounded and supported by caregivers during the last days of his life. David Slaughter, also known as Dave, was born in Alexandria, Virginia to the late Julian and the late Mattie Slaughter on December 31, 1923.
Dave was a resident of Alexandria until he relocated to Washington, DC in 1970, where he lived until 2005 when he moved with his daughter in Waldorf, MD. Dave was educated in the public school system of Alexandria, VA. He served his country by joining the United States Navy from August 11, 1943 to April 14, 1946. After leaving the military service, he became a civil servant for various agencies and retired from the National Park Service in Washington, DC after 40+ years. Dave leaves to cherish his memories: daughters, Rena Jarrett, Deborah Carter (Tyrone), grandchildren Aurelia Thrift (Ra’mond), Michelle Conteh (Lamin) and Lorenzo Carter; sister-in-law Joyce Jackson and many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Cleo, sons; David Jr. and Gregory. His viewing will be held on Friday, October 14th, 9:00am until time of service 10:00am in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, MD 20640.
