Mrs. Mathews was a Secretary for the Clerk of the County for the Charles County Government and a member and volunteer of St. Paul's Episcopal Church "Piney Parish". She was a member of the Waldorf Lioness Club and a Lioness of the Year. She was also a volunteer with Children's Aid Society and an active member of the Antique Arts Association. She was a homemaker and active with her community.

Daughter of the late Jennings Lee Hamilton and the late Estelle Mae Hamilton.

Predeceased by her parents.

Survived by her husband of 62 years, John H. Mathews; one son, John H. Mathews, Jr. and his wife Barbara of Wentzville, MO; two daughters, Susan L. Schaberg and her husband Thomas of St. Charles, MO and Patti R. Myers and her husband Neil Jr. of La Plata, MD; one brother, Robert Hamilton of Waldorf, MD; and two sisters, Lois Keech of La Plata, MD and Betty Lee Thompson and her husband George of Waldorf, MD. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Visitation: Sunday, October 9, 2011 from 4-8PM with a Prayer Service at 6PM at Raymond Funeral Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646. Funeral Service: Monday, October 10, 2011 at 1PM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church "Piney Parish", 4535 Piney Church Road, Waldorf, MD 20604. Clergy: Reverend Dr. Joy A. Rose, TSFF Pallbearers: grandsons Interment: Monday, October 10, 2011 in Church Cemetery.
