Virginia Gupton Rushton, 90, of Nanjemoy, MD. died March 15, 2007, at her home. Mrs. Rushton was retired from the Department of the Navy as a Fiscal Accounting Director.
Born August 14, 1916, in Edgecomb, N.C., she is predeceased by her parents Norman Lewis Gupton and Lilly Hoyle Gupton and her husband William D. Rushton. She is also pre-deceased by her sisters; Evelyn Gupton Turner, Dorothy Gupton Williams, brother; Norman Lewis Gupton, Jr., and a grandchild; Debra Lee Robey. She is survived by her daughter, Lorraine Collins Northern of Spotsylvania, VA., granddaughter; Callie E. Henry of Reedville, VA., and 5 great-grandchildren. She was a member of Christ Church Durham Parish in Ironsides, MD. Where she served on the Vestry for 12 years and as the Treasurer for 9 years. She attended different Universities for a business and accounting degree. She graduated as a member of the George Washington University and is an alumnus. She also completed courses in Computer Science, Programming and the use of Computers for management. She led a fascinating career. She did trouble shooting and resolved fiscal problems around the world. She received various awards for her work through out her career. The award that was dearest to her heart was the Meritorious Service Award which was presented to her by Admiral J. Johnson on April 23, 1979. Mrs. Rushton was a past member of the Military Comptroller Association. The past President of the Navy Recreation Association, a member of the Democratic National, Congressional Committee, a member of the Maryland Democratic Club, a civilian member of the Maryland Troopers Association and a past member of the Charles County Children's Aide Society. She also supported various civic and charitable organizations and was a member of the National Association for Retired Federal Employees.
