Barbara Constance Johnson, 75, of La Plata, MD, died June 17, 2011, at Chesapeake Shores Nursing Home in Lexington Park, MD.

Mrs. Johnson volunteered at the nursing home during the blizzard. She made blankets for the homeless and children for community churches. At the age of four during World War II she was taken out of London with her baby brother, Allen. She worked delivering milk at the age of seven. She lived her life doing charity work. Her favorite past time was her family, spending time with her grandchildren, playing bingo, knitting and watching dog shows. She was a civilian worker as a clerk for Indian Head, a manager of a hardware store and a secretary for 45 years at McCulley's Air Conditioning in Waldorf, MD.

Daughter of the late Herbert James Mitchell and the late Elsie Busby Mitchell. Predeceased by her parents.

Survived by her husband, Jeffrey L. Johnson; son, Darren K. Johnson; brothers, Allen Mitchell and James Mitchell; sister, Margaret "Margie" Sennett. Also survived by six grandchildren, Tamika, Skyler, Anita, Keith, Lauren Maxwell, Little Jesse Johnson; 11 great-grandchildren.

A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 from 5pm to 8pm with Funeral Service at 7pm at Raymond Funeral Chapel, La Plata, MD. Clergy will be the Rev. Mark Roberson Interment will take place on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 10am at Maryland Veteran's Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, MD 20623.
