Betty Mae Spence, 84, of Mechanicsville, MD, died May 2, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital, Leonardtown, MD. Born November 24, 1926 in Codogan, PA, she was the daughter of Sheridan Uncapher and Blanche V. Buttermore.

She worked for many years as a vending machine servicer for Ogden Food Service. She retired in 1988. Betty loved dancing, country music, good food, bowling, and was a member of Washington Council #22.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Eugene Spence; son, Robert E. Spence, Jr.; sister, Arabella R. Baker and 1 grandchild.

She is survived by son, Michael C. Spence; daughters, Sandra S. Hooe, Pamela A. Moore and Roberta K. Barkley; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 5, 2011 from 9 - 11 a.m. at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 211 St. Mary's Avenue, La Plata, MD. A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Arehart-Echols. Interment will follow at Maryland National Memorial Park, 13300 Baltimore Ave., Laurel, MD.
