William "Bill" Joseph Sweeney, 81 of Hughesville, MD died April 16, 2011 at Calvert Memorial Hospital, Prince Frederick, MD. Born December 30, 1929 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, he was the son of Cornelius Ralph Sweeney and Eleanor Reed Sweeney.
He was employed as an electrician and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 26 Retired Members Club. Bill was a life member of VFW Post 8950 and the American Legion Post 238 in Hughesville, MD. He belonged to the Old Timers Pool League at Post 238. He enjoyed gardening and grew huge vegetable gardens. Also, he enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles and was an enthusiastic Red Skins fan. Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by his wife, Ann Theresa Moses Sweeney and siblings, James Sweeney and Eleanor Troccoli. He is survived by his daughters; Anne Casler (James) of Waldorf, MD, Mary Sweeney (Gerry) of Mechanicsville, MD, Elizabeth Austin of Mechanicsville, MD, Teresa Phillips (Christopher) of Gainesville, VA and Colleen Turner (Timothy) of Hughesville, MD; grandchildren, Amanda Havens (Trevor), Dale Casler (Jenny), Charles S. Moy, Jr., Kelly Crossen (William), Christina Sweeney, Joseph Austin, Jr., Jacqueline Austin, Jennifer Dudak (Curt) and Anna Phillips; great grand-daughters, Taylor and Hannah Havens and Bailee Dudak. The family will receive friends for Bill's Life Celebration on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd.,Charlotte Hall, MD. Prayers will be held at 7:00p.m. followed by an American Legion service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Mechanicsville, MD. The Rev. James Caulfield will officiate. Interment will take place Friday, April 22, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J.
