Evelyn Gatton Goddard, 89 of Great Mills, MD died April 5, 2011 at Hospice House of St. Mary's.
Born December 19, 1921 in Hollywood, MD she was the daughter of the late Pirly I. Gatton and Lola C. (Taylor) Gatton. Evelyn was a telephone operator and a fifth grade school teacher at Little Flower School in Great Mills, MD. She was a devoted life-time member of The Ladies of Charity of Holy Face church and served her church faithfully. She also was a renowned cake decorator who held decorating classes, teaching the art to numerous people within the tri-county area for many years. She was a wonderful mother, awesome grandmother, great-grandmother, loyal friend to many and great companion to her loving husband Robert Goddard Sr. Evelyn is survived by her sons; Robert Goddard, Jr. (Donna), Francis Goddard (Rita), Donald Goddard (Betty) and Tony Goddard (Carrie) all of Great Mills, MD, siblings; Pirly Gatton of St. Inigoes, MD and Edith Chesser of Great Mills, MD, nine grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Luke Goddard, Sr., grandson, Timmy Goddard and siblings, James A. Gatton and Howard Gatton. Family will receive friends on Monday, April 11, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in Holy Face Catholic Church, 20476 Point Lookout Road, Great Mills, MD 20634. Prayers will be recited at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pall bearers will be Donald Goddard, Jr., Anthony Goddard, Jr., James Goddard, Dylan Goddard, Ricky Chesser and Robert Belden, Jr. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Allen Slade.
