Elizabeth "Betty" Virginia Greer Schultz was born in Cedar Point Neck, MD. She was one of eight children. Her paretns were Hannah Carpenter Greer and John William Greer, Sr., of Blossom Point, Smallwood, and Welcome, MD.

Betty graduated in 1945 from Sacred Heart School in La Plata, MD with five other young ladies. Her other classmates had joined the war effort or gone to work for companies making supplies for the war. Betty received a scholarship from the McDonaugh Scholarship Fund in La Plata. She attended Temple Business College in Washington, DC and after graduation, she worked with the National Geographic Magazine. While with the magazine, she was asked by a reporter to tell him about the 4-H organizations. Betty told him to attend the county fairs in Charles, St. Mary's, and Calvert Counties and he would learn all about 4-H. In 1947, she was nominated in Charles County to be a princess in the Queen Nicotina Contest, where she won. Her picture was then published in the National Geographic November 1948 issue.

While attending a dance at Edelen Brothers Tobacco Warehouse in La Plata, MD Betty met her future husband, "Jimmie" Francis Jameson Schultz. They married in 1949 and made a perfect couple. Their daughter, Jane Elizabeth Schultz arrived in 1950. Betty was always helping Jimmie in his business ventures, including the historical tobacco auctions at Farmers' Tobacco Auction Warehouses, Inc., in Hughesville, MD. She loved to hear the auctioneer's chant.

Always charming and full of hugs, Betty was active in the Sacred Heart Church in La Plata. She loved singing in the choirs and helping the Ladies Sodality and Catholic Daughters. She quietly and happily supported all Southern Maryland charities, and performed many good deeds. Betty was a local 4-H Leader of the Livewires 4-H Club. She took her club on trips up and down the East Coast. She was a promoter of education and taught her 4-H girls to always strive to help others. Betty's journey through life was a wonderful experience, filled with love for her faith, family, and friends.
